Booking a dog photography session is an exciting way to capture lasting memories of your four-legged friend. But if the idea of being in the photos too makes you feel self-conscious, you’re not alone! Many pet owners feel nervous about appearing on camera. At Lincolnshire Pawtraits, we specialise in creating a relaxed, enjoyable experience—for both dogs and humans.
Here’s how to feel more confident and natural in front of the lens:
1. Wear What You Love (But Keep It Simple)
Lincolnshire weather can be unpredictable, so dress appropriately for the season, especially as most of our photoshoots are in the great outdoors.
Stick to neutral, earthy tones—think soft greys, creams, navy, or olive. Avoid loud patterns, neon colours, and large logos, which can distract from the main focus: your dog. Layers work well and give you options during the shoot. Most importantly, choose something you feel good in—comfort shows on camera.
2. Let Your Dog Take Centre Stage
The best thing you can do is focus on your dog. Whether you’re tossing a ball, giving them belly rubs, or just sitting close and making eye contact, your connection with them is what makes the photo special.
We’ll give light direction when needed, but we’ll also capture plenty of candid moments—the nose boops, tail wags, and shared glances that show the real love between you.

3. Get to Know Your Photographer
We always offer a pre-session chat—either in person or online—so you can ask questions and get to know who’ll be behind the camera. Understanding what to expect helps ease nerves, and we’ll walk you through the process from start to finish.

4. Laugh, Play, and Be Yourself
You don’t need to pose perfectly or smile on cue. Some of the most beautiful photos are the spontaneous, unplanned moments. Trust us to capture those for you.
We’ve photographed countless Lincolnshire dogs and their owners—from Great Danes in open fields to tiny terriers in town gardens—and we know how to make both ends of the lead feel at ease.

5. Make it All About The Dog
There is no obligation to be in any of the pictures at all- remember, you booked this to capture memories of your dog and many people have no interest in sharing the spotlight with their furry friend. This is your photoshoot and your images, so you will be the one to decide what kind of memories you want to capture.
